Medicube Zero Pore Pad 2.0: What It Does and How to Use It
Share
The Medicube Zero Pore Pad 2.0 is a jar of 70 cotton pads soaked in a mild acid toner. Each pad carries 4.5% lactic acid and 0.45% salicylic acid, so it lifts dead skin and clears the look of clogged pores in one swipe. It is a one or two nights a week step, not a daily toner, and that is the part most people get wrong. This guide covers what is in it, how to use it, and who should leave it on the shelf.
What the Zero Pore Pad actually is
It is an exfoliating toner pad. That means a round cotton pad, soaked in liquid, that you swipe over clean skin instead of tipping a toner into your hand. The liquid is the point, because it is an acid toner, and the pad is just the easiest way to put it on evenly.
This is the second version of the pad Medicube is best known for. It is the most searched product we sell, by a wide margin, and it is the one people ask us about most. Most of those questions are the same two: what does it do, and how often can I use it? The short answers are that it smooths and it clears, and less often than you think.
Each jar holds 70 pads, which is about eight months of use at twice a week, so the $29.49 price works out well. Keep the lid on tight between uses, because the liquid dries out if you leave the jar open.
What is in it, and what each part does
Two acids do the work, and the first is lactic acid, an AHA that works on the surface of the skin. It loosens the dead cells that make skin look dull and feel rough, so they wipe away instead of piling up. At 4.5% it is strong enough to notice but mild enough for most skin.
Salicylic acid is a BHA, which is oil-loving, so it can get into a pore and help clear the oil and dead skin sitting inside. That is what makes this a pore pad and not just a smoothing pad. It sits at 0.45%, which is a gentle dose. Betaine salicylate and willow bark extract back it up with more of the same kind of help.
The rest of the liquid is there to keep skin calm. Centella asiatica, panthenol and allantoin are three of the most common soothing extracts in Korean skincare. They help skin feel comfortable after the acids have done their job. If you want to read more on the first of those, our centella explainer covers it in depth.
The two sides of the pad, and which one to use
Flip a pad over and you will see it has two faces. One side is textured, with raised bumps woven into the cotton, and the other is smooth. They are not the same step.
The textured side buffs, so it adds a light physical scrub on top of the acids. That makes it the side for the nose, chin and forehead, where skin feels rough. The smooth side gives you the acids alone, with no scrubbing. It is the side to start on, and the side to stay on if your skin is at all sensitive.
Our advice is simple: use the smooth side for your first few weeks. If your skin stays calm and you want more, use the textured side on the oily parts only, with a light hand. Pressing hard does not make it work better. It just makes skin red.

How to use the Zero Pore Pad, step by step
- Cleanse in the evening and pat your skin fully dry. Acids work best on dry skin, and water left on the face waters the pad down.
- Take one pad and swipe the smooth side over your face, from the centre out, skipping the eye area and the lips.
- Wait one to two minutes and do not rinse. A light tingle is normal, but a sting or a burn is not, so rinse straight away if you feel one.
- Follow with your toner and a plain moisturiser, and skip retinal, vitamin C and any other acid that night.
- Wear sunscreen the next morning, because newly buffed skin burns faster, and that matters twice as much in Australia.
Start with one night a week, and after two weeks, if your skin is calm, go to two. Medicube designs it for evening use and says to build up slowly, and we agree. Most people never need more than two nights a week.
What to use before and after it
On pad nights the rest of the routine should be plain. The pad is the active step, so everything around it is there to cleanse, hydrate and calm.
Before it, you need a cleanser that leaves skin clean but not tight. The Medicube Zero Foam Cleanser is the pair the brand built for it, a soft foam that rinses clean without stripping. If you wear sunscreen or makeup, do a first cleanse with an oil like the Anua Heartleaf Pore Control Cleansing Oil, then the foam.
After it, wait a minute, then use a hydrating toner. The Anua Heartleaf 77% Soothing Toner is the one we reach for. It is mostly heartleaf water, so there is nothing in it to react to. Then a plain cream like the Medicube Collagen Jelly Cream, which is light and cool and feels good on freshly buffed skin. If your skin runs dry, the AESTURA Atobarrier 365 Cream is richer and built around ceramides.
On the other five nights, use your normal routine. That is where a serum like the Medicube PDRN Pink Peptide Serum fits, and our Medicube PDRN routine guide shows the full order. Keep the pad and the serum on different nights while your skin is new to the pad.

Who it suits, and who should skip it
The pad suits oily and combination skin best. If your pores look clogged, your T-zone feels rough, or you get small bumps on the forehead and chin, this is the product for you. It also suits normal skin that wants a smoother feel once a week. Dry skin can use it too, on the smooth side, as long as the cream after it is rich enough.
Who should skip it: sensitive or reactive skin, skin with a damaged barrier, and anyone with a rash or broken skin. Acids on a sore barrier make things worse, not better. Also skip it if you are already on a retinal or a retinoid from your doctor. Two strong steps in one routine is one too many, and our retinal vs retinol guide explains why.

If that is you, there are gentler ways to get a smoother feel. The Beauty of Joseon Apricot Blossom Peeling Gel is a rinse-off gel that rolls dead skin away with no acids at all. The SKIN1004 Madagascar Centella Toning Toner has a touch of PHA, the mildest acid family, in a daily toner. And a plain hydrating toner on its own does more for rough skin than most people expect.
Your first month with the pad
Weeks one and two: one night a week, smooth side, plain routine after. Weeks three and four: two nights a week if your skin is calm, still on the smooth side. After that, try the textured side on the nose and chin only, once, and see how it feels.
Give it a month before you judge it, because skin renews itself on a cycle of about four weeks. The smoother feel shows after the first use, but the change in how pores look takes longer. If your skin is still red or stinging after two weeks, it is not for you, and that is fine. The gentler options above do a similar job more slowly.
Not sure where the pad fits next to the rest of the line? Our guide to the Medicube range puts it beside the serums, creams and masks it pairs with.
Frequently asked questions
How often should I use the Medicube Zero Pore Pad 2.0?
One night a week to start, on the smooth side of the pad, and two nights a week once your skin is used to it. Use it in the evening on clean, dry skin, and most people never need more than two nights a week.
Do I rinse off the Zero Pore Pad?
No, swipe it on, wait one to two minutes, then carry on with your toner and moisturiser. Only rinse if it stings or burns, which is a sign your skin is not ready for it.
Can I use the Zero Pore Pad every day?
We do not suggest it, because daily use of lactic and salicylic acid at these doses leaves most skin tight and red. Two nights a week is enough to see the difference.
Which side of the Zero Pore Pad do I use?
Start with the smooth side, which gives you the acids without any scrubbing. The textured side adds a light physical buff. Keep it for the nose, chin and forehead once your skin is used to the pad.
Can I use the Zero Pore Pad with retinal or vitamin C?
Not on the same night. Keep the pad, retinal and strong vitamin C on different evenings so your skin only meets one strong step at a time. A plain toner and moisturiser are all you need after the pad.
Is the Medicube Zero Pore Pad 2.0 good for sensitive skin?
Usually not, because it is built for oily and combination skin with clogged pores. If your skin is sensitive or your barrier feels sore, start with a hydrating toner instead. The Anua Heartleaf 77% Soothing Toner or a rinse-off peeling gel is the safer place to begin.
